LocationFargo Corporate OfficeJob Description:SUMMARY: This position leads the Bank's credit risk management strategy and advocates for the Bank's credit culture. This person is responsible for the 2nd line credit risk oversight program, the credit direction of the bank, development of and reporting around the bank's credit risk profile, and loan policies, procedures, and controls to ensure the overall quality of the Bank's loan portfolio. The role chairs the Bank's Executive Credit Committee and the Special Assets Committee and provides ongoing reports to the Board and CEO on the state of credit. The position collaborates with product and sales leadership on effective credit strategies and manages the Bank's interactions with regulators on credit related matters. Walk in their shoes and then exceed their expectations.Live and support the mission, vision, and principles of the Bank and be an active participant in the community.Take initiative, show interest, anticipate needs, and keep transformation moving forward.Build a culture of positivity, celebration, and recognize short-term wins.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Develop the Bank's written Credit Risk appetite including concentration limits and obtain approval from executive leadership and the board.Manage the credit governance meetings including the Executive Credit Committee and the Special Assets Committee.Collaborate with the first line lending areas to develop effective credit strategies to achieve the Bank's strategic plan and operate within the Bank's risk appetite.Responsible for ensuring the Bank has effective credit standards, policies and procedures including:Establish policies and standards to ensure compliance with bank's credit risk appetite and with regulatory requirements.Collaborate with the first line lending areas to develop Product Standards and Guidelines to implement the bank's strategies and which comply with the bank's credit risk appetite and with regulatory requirements.Establish standards and oversight to ensure effective credit administration that meets regulatory expectations.Ensure the Bank has timely, actionable credit management reporting that meets regulatory expectations and requirements. Provide timely actionable management reporting to executive leadership and the board on the overall credit risk and performance including:Level of credit risk and the performance of the loan portfolios.Level of Criticized and Classified assets and overall problem loans.Results of periodic stress testing.Responsible for ensuring the Bank has a strong understanding of regulatory credit expectations and manages the process with outside examiners in an appropriate fashion, including, but not limited to:Ensuring the Bank fully understands the regulatory requirements and regulator expectations concerning credit and complies with them.Coordinating the Bank's preparation for regulatory examinations and external audits.Ensuring timely and comprehensive response to regulatory inquiries, audits, and examinations involving risk.Develop and manage the Bank's credit risk review program to meet board expectations and regulatory expectations. Develop and obtain approval of an annual Credit Risk Review Policy and Program that meets regulatory requirements which will include:Loan grading policies, procedures, and reporting systems/MIS requirementsIndependent Loan ReviewCredit reporting and MISManage the Bank's Problem Loan Program including:Assisting in the compilation of Problem Loan Status reports.Providing recommendations and causing implementation of respective loan action plans.Preparing reporting of the status of the Bank's special assets for Bank leadership.Exhibit 'Brilliant at the Basics' customer service skills and the ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with colleagues, management, and clients.To provide expected levels of service to Gate City Bank customers, co-workers, and vendors, prompt and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.Must comply with all Gate City Bank policies, procedures, applicable laws, and regulations.Ability to make decisions in a fast-paced environment.Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations, including resolving problems or concerns with potentially upset customers.Other:Provide a "Wow" customer service experience for team members and customers.Develop and maintain productive relationships with team members, leaders, customers, and vendors.Prompt and reliable attendance is essential to provide expected levels of service.Must comply with all Gate City Bank policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations.Ability to make decisions in a fast-paced environment.Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations, including resolving problems or concerns with customers or team members.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of credit and risk functions assigned to the Chief Credit Officer. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Bank's policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations.Leverage the strengths of the team members, help clarify roles and responsibilities, and develop and implement training and development to maximize and reach optimal individual and Bank goals.Interview, hire, and train team members; plan, assign, and direct work; give real-time feedback to team members; recognize, reward, and discipline team members; address complaints; and resolve problems.Ensure team members are kept current on issues affecting job-related duties, responsibilities, and trends on a consistent basis.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Bachelors' degree in finance, accounting, statistics, or a related field. MBA/CPA/Graduate School of Banking a plus; 15 years' experience as a leader in a bank credit risk management and lending; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge in common data management and reporting software. Banking/Lending experience required.OTHER SKILLS:Strong understanding of loan underwriting, the lending process, and controls and policies governing the lending process for consumer and small business loans.Strong understanding of legal and regulatory guidance governing bank lending.Small and middle market lending and credit experience, specifically in C & I and CRE. Retail lending management experience, construction lending and "Participation" loan management are considered a plus.Problem Loan management and allowance for loan loss management and methodology experience.Strong management and partnering skills.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Ability to maintain confidentiality.EOE/including Disability/VetsMember FDIC
