Job Description Job Description JOB SUMMARY: This position
answers incoming calls from the public on emergency and
non-emergency telephone lines. Pages emergency response units and
makes response decisions regarding law enforcement, fire, and
emergency medical services. Handles walk-in requests for services.
Operates computer terminals, enters and maintains records through
computer aided dispatch programming (CAD), and interpretive
judgment may be required. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Answering all incoming
calls both emergent and non-emergent. Operates, monitors, answers,
and dispatches via radio communication for Police, Fire Department,
EMS, and other agencies, updates responders with new information.
Classifying calls using problem solving skills/analysis and
decision-making skills to dispatch out the corresponding agency
(fire, law enforcement, EMS). Dispatch out responding departments
to calls for service. Researches, retrieves, and communicates
information related to warrants, addresses, name records, phone
records, and vehicle records using a computer aided dispatch (CAD)
system. Accesses NCIC, SDLETS, and NLETS databases for criminal
justice information. Maintains and updates call logs. Performs
other related duties as directed by a supervisor. MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS: Must possess a High School Diploma Must be 18 years
of Age Must be willing and able to work a variety of shifts and
hours including days, nights, weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
Adequate mental and physical capacity to perform assigned duties in
an efficient and safe manner. Ability to understand and operate a
variety of radio and telephone equipment. Must possess good hearing
and a clear speaking voice. Basic knowledge of computers and have
proficient typing skills. The ability to comprehend and follow
complex oral and written instructions during emergency situations.
Able to complete numerous tasks simultaneously and accurately
during emergency situations. Maintain a professional working
relationship with a variety of public and private agencies as well
as the public in general. Skill in making decisions in high
pressure and emergency situations. Skill in critical thinking,
decision-making, and conflict resolution PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The
