As a Supervisory General Engineer, you will be responsible for two-fold facilities activities including planning, operating, maintaining, supervising and overseeing the day-to-day operations of buildings, utilities, roadways, grounds and other facilities; and managing and overseeing projects including new construction and additions and renovations to existing structures. Learn more about this agency Responsibilities - Conduct facilities inspections to evaluate the condition of structures, utilities, and equipment (e.g. lighting, HVAC, roof structures, interior and exterior walls, and a variety of facility equipment that operate the facilities). - Participate in short and long-range planning to ensure maintenance, modeling, and repair of facilities are accomplished. - Prepare drawings, statements of work and technical schematics for building remodels, HVAC upgrades and/or new construction. - Act as primary designer for in-house remodeling, HVAC upgrades, greenhouse replacement and controls upgrades, building automation systems (BAS) upgrades and other facility upgrades. - Operate facility programs and services efficiently by assuring compliance with all certification, safety, fire prevention, and security program requirements. - Coordinate safety related issues (e.g. air quality, industrial hygiene, OSHA, etc.) with Center Safety Officer to ensure organization employees have safe working conditions. Qualifications Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below. BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Success completion of a Bachelor's (or higher) degree in professional engineering. To be acceptable, the curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. OR Combination of education and experience. Specifically, I have college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background is demonstrated by one of the following: (1) I am currently registered as a professional engineer (by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico); (2) I have successfully passed the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) examination, or the written test required for professional registration; (3) I have completed at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in Option A above. The courses are fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of a professional engineering curriculum; or (4) I have successfully completed a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering technology or in an appropriate professional field (i.e. physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology) and I have at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. GS-09: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level. Specialized experience is fulfilled by the following: Under close supervision, assists with planning, operating, maintaining, overseeing the day-to-day operations of buildings, utilities, roadways, grounds and other facilities, AND; Overseeing projects including new construction and additions and renovations to existing structures. OR Education Substitution. Successful completion of a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree, or two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree. OR Combination of specialized experience and graduate level education as described in options A and B, such that the percentage of required experience plus the percentage of required education equals 100%.
