LITTLE MINERS CHILD CARE CENTER DIRECTOR #00077787 Basic Function & Responsibilities:
The Little Miners Child Care Center is a state-licensed, full-service childcare facility. The Director is responsible for managing the Little Miners Child Care Center including establishing goals and expectations, overseeing operations and staffing, ensuring adherence to licensing requirements and meeting established financial performance goals.
-- Job Functions:

  • Provide functional and administrative supervision to teachers, aides--and students including hiring, training, coaching, disciplining--and providing performance feedback. This includes, but is not limited to, complying with required child-to-staff ratios; ensuring staff meet all licensing, certification--and training requirements;--authorizing schedules and leave requests--and approving timesheets; and performing the responsibilities and duties of staff in order to ensure child-caregiver ratios when needed.
  • Develop, implement--and monitor all policies, procedures--and practices within the center to ensure the health, safety--and wellbeing of all children in care while meeting licensing requirements. Establish overall goals and expectations regarding center operations and curriculum. Monitor daily curriculum, methods--and skills of teachers, aides, and student assistants. Promote and hold employees accountable in providing a positive, educational, multicultural, diverse--and inviting environment at all times.
  • --Interact with parents regarding general and/or sensitive and confidential matters relating to their children. Confer with parents about their child(ren)'s learning and/or behaviors, including any needs or problems. Ensure parents receive regular updates regarding their child(ren)'s physical,social/emotional, cognitive--and creative development. Mediate with families regarding behavior issues, developmental concerns--and policy/practices of the center.--Educate families on services available when necessary. Securely maintain required and/or confidential documentation pertaining to each child for ready and available access when required.
  • Ensure state and federal requirements are met in order to secure available funding. Approve required documentation and oversee internal compliance, including preparing and signing legal invoices to ensure funding is secured on schedule. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of and adherence to state and/or federal licensing regulations. Serve as a primary contact and represent S&T in matters pertaining to the Center, including participating in audits. Attend meetings sponsored by agencies as may be necessary.
  • Oversee billing processes for childcare services, including but not limited to billing and collecting payments on individual family accounts; calculating and applying state and/or other funding or subsidies to family accounts and adjusting payments due; verifying receipts of funding from state reimbursements or other sources; following up on delinquent payments; and maintaining accurate and timely records on accounts. Maintain records necessary for submission to state or other agencies. Produce reports showing financial accounts by responsible party. Coordinate with fiscal manager regarding funds and monies collected and overdue accounts.
  • Ensure financial accountability of the Center including monitoring budgets and ensuring expenditures are appropriate. Prepare and recommend budgets: personnel costs, childcare supplies, large purchases, etc. Purchase and/or monitor supplies purchases for Center operations (formula, baby food, developmentally appropriate toys, classroom/teacher supplies, etc.) for compliance with University policies. Recommend and implement childcare rates. Identify and seek funding opportunities in support of the Center. Ensure the facility is maintained, safe--and suitable for care. Contact appropriate University departments for assistance in addressing needs.
  • Perform public relations and marketing functions associated with recruiting families to ensure full-enrollment each semester. Consult with University marketing staff to create a Center website and maintain up-to-date information and content of interest to parents and the community. Coordinate waiting lists and maintain communication with families seeking care. Provide information about the Center and provide tours; discuss policies, procedures,--expectations--and fees; and enroll children. Inform applicants of available child care subsidy program(s). Supervision Received:
    General supervision is received from a designated supervisor.
    -- Supervision Exercised:
    Functional and administrative supervision is exercised over teachers, aides, and student assistants.
    Minimum Qualifications:
    • A Bachelor's degree in early childhood education, child development or a related area or an equivalent combination of education and abilities from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is necessary.
    • Three (3) years teaching experience is necessary and at least one (1) year of administrative responsibilities. Preferred Qualifications:
      • Three (3) years of managing a child care center which included supervision, fiscal management including budgeting, billing and purchasing, curriculum development, and responsibility for enrollment of children.
      • Must possess or be able to obtain a Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Certification for Early Childhood (Birth through Grade 3) within 12 months of employment.
      • Ability to communicate professionally both in writing and verbally, including the ability to convey sensitive, difficult information to parents and maintain confidentiality.
      • Position requires the physical agility and ability to walk, stoop, bend, squat, sit on the floor, and perform activities with children, for extended periods of time, including assuming postures in low level positions that best allow physical and visual contact with children and to move promptly from a seated position to a standing position.
      • Proficiency in working with office and educational software.
      • Ability to pass all applicable background and medical screening tests.
