The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) at UVMHN - Central Vermont Medical Center (CVMC) is an essential member of the CVMC senior leadership team. They are accountable for guiding the development and implementation of medical staff policies, practices, and clinical programs throughout CVMC. The incumbent has primary accountability for the Medical Staff Office and related provider functions and works collaboratively with affiliate leaders across the UVMHN. They demonstrate the ability to effectively support and advance clinical and bu siness objectives that align with CVMC's strategic priorities and mission. They are responsible for supporting and modeling a patient and family centered culture focused on advancing employee engagement, clinical quality, patient safety, service excellence, fiscal responsibility, and enhancing of patient & family experience.--REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:The Chief Medical Officer reports to the President, COO of CVMC and serves on the Senior Leadership. This position has direct accountability for the Chief Advanced Practice Provider, Director for Quality, and the Director of the Medical Staff Office.OTHER RELATIONSHIPS:The incumbent establishes a collaborative relationship with the CVMC Regional Physician Leader (RPL), CVMC Medical Staff leadership and CMO colleagues across the UVMHN and the State of Vermont. The incumbent maintains collaborative relationships with internal and external partners. In collaboration with the RPL, the CMO is responsible for supporting the physician leaders and the goals and objectives of the Medical Staff Office. CVMC medical staff.--SC OPE: The CMO will work collaboratively across CVMC to advance clinical and service quality objectives, performance improvement goals and clinical program development. They provide leadership to the Director of Quality to advance CVMC's quality and patient safety programs The CMO is accountable for assuring the effectiveness of the Medical Staff Office, provider peer review programs and serves as the liaison for medical staff, external organizations, and regulatory agencies.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS/EXPERIENCE: MD/DO degree with a minimum of 10 years of clinical experience. Board certification with a current license to practice medicine in Vermont. 5 or more years of progressive leadership experience. An advanced business, health care administration or public health degree is preferred.The incumbent must demonstrate a strong track record of working collaboratively in complex, matrix, healthcare environments.BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of medical staff office operations and related standards, health care reform, continuous quality improvement and appropriate regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to lead provider groups, including effective facilitation skills, leadership development, team-building, performance management, and driving cultural change.
  • Ability to work with providers and leadership to strategize and develop measurable improvements in the quality of clinical care, patient safety, healthcare operations and patient, provider and employee satisfaction.
  • Implementation of a continuous improvement culture. Proven track record of partnering with providers to achieve desired facility-specific and organizational outcomes.
  • Skilled in effectively handling multiple conflicting assignments, demands, and priorities with attention to detail.
  • Ability to coach and develop direct reports and/or other employees by providing open and honest feedback that results in enhanced performance outcomes.
  • Knowledge of national trends in health care, hospital technology, quality and patient safety.
  • Proven ability to navigate a highly-matrixed organizational structure with skill and efficiency; analyzing complex financial/statistical data; maintaining a high level of organization with strong attention to detail to respond effectively to varying situations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills are essential.
