The Associate Provost and AVP AA is a Cabinet level position and provides procedural oversight, leadership, and implementation of academic curriculum, programs, and policies as designated by the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, including faculty relations and student conflict resolution. The Associate Provost and AVP AA provides leadership for the Dean's Council and program directors, serves as the Provost's designee on academic and student affairs committees, collaborates with offices on campus to assess and develop effective academic policies, practices and procedures, acts for the Academic Affairs Office with day-to-day management of the Academic Affairs Division, and fulfills other duties as assigned. Responsibilities of the Associate Provost and AVP AA include: * Overseeing and supervising the directors of the campus-wide academic units, programs, and offices as assigned by the Provost and VP for Academic Affairs (P&VPAA); leading Academic Deans' Council and participating in the President's Cabinet and Provost's Council; and serving as academic administrator on university committees as assigned by the P&VPAA. Percent of time: 25% * Serving as a critical Provost's Office liaison with faculty and ensuring appropriate management of issues; investigating complaints related to academic programs; and seeking resolution of contract grievances. Percent of time: 10% * Implementing and monitoring compliance with Minnesota State Board and University academic policies and collective bargaining agreements. Percent of time: 10% * Overseeing administrative responsibilities for curriculum and program approval processes, including management of Curriculum, Catalog and Minnesota State approval processes. Percent of time: 10% * Overseeing program level assessment and regional accreditation compliance. Convening the Assessment Committee and serving as the campus's HLC Accreditation Liaison Officer. Percent of time: 10% * Leading Academic Deans and Directors in the implementation of Academic Affairs policies, practices, and procedures. Managing budget and student worker allocations for the Academic Affairs Division. Percent of time: 10% * Collaborating with the P&VPAA regarding immediate and strategic issues related to the Academic Affairs unit, including the IFO Meet-and-Confer processes and agenda setting. Percent of time: 5% * Overseeing processes related to the appointment and evaluation of faculty. Percent of time: 5% * Representing BSU Academic Affairs in Minnesota State academic affairs meetings and initiatives as assigned by the P&VPAA. Percent of time: 5% * Managing responses to student concerns brought to the attention of the President and Provost; facilitating grade appeals and student complaints. Percent of time: 5% * Representing Academic Affairs at on-campus and external events when the Provost is unable to attend and determines that Academic Affairs should be represented. Percent of time: 5% Required Qualifications Minimum qualifications for this position include: * Doctoral degree from an accredited university. * Ten years of related experience, including a record of effectiveness in an academic leadership position. * Ability to appropriately develop, interpret and apply academic and student policies to support the mission of the institution. * Experience with program level assessment and regional accreditation. * Ability to lead initiatives and engage campus in a collaborative process of implementation of external and internal policies and procedures. * Ability to work with, support, and contribute to a diverse academic community. * Ability to resolve issues in a cooperative and collegial manner consistent with applicable policies. * Excellent communication skills (written and verbal). Preferred Qualifications Preferred qualifications include: * Understanding of academic issues and emerging trends in U.S. higher education. * Experience with implementing academic and student policies, practices, and procedures in a collective bargaining environment. * Experience working in a multi-union collective bargaining environment.
