Facility: FM Ambulance Location: Fargo, ND Address: 2215 18th St S, Fargo, ND 58103, USA Shift: 12 Hours - Rotating Shifts Job Schedule: Full time Weekly Hours: 42.00 Job Summary Emergency Medical Technicians possess the basic knowledge and skills necessary to stabilize and safely transport patients ranging from non-emergency and routine medical transports to life threatening emergencies. Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) perform interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance. In an Ambulance setting, the EMT will drive mobile intensive care unit to a specified location, following instructions from emergency medical dispatcher. Respond to emergency calls, administer first aid treatment or life support care to sick or injured persons in pre-hospital settings. Obtain the patients' medical history and vital statistics. Help assess the nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize the patients for emergency needs and treatment procedures during transportation. Utilize necessary medical equipment to treat the patient and ascertains the extent of their injuries or illness. Communicate with dispatchers or treatment center personnel to provide information about the situation, to arrange transfer of patients, report patient information to medical staff in a timely and accurate manner, or to receive instructions for further treatment. Ensure the ambulance is clean and washed and kept in a neat orderly condition. After each call, restock and replace used linens, blankets and other supplies, cleans all equipment following appropriate disinfecting procedures, checks of all equipment so that the ambulance is ready for the next run and maintains ambulance in efficient operating condition. Physical activities include, but not limited to, considerable use of arms and legs and moving of whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling materials. Successfully complete at state approved Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course that meets or exceeds the National Emergency Services Education Standards. Attend continuing education and training classes to maintain current certifications and/or licensure. Keep abreast of new developments in the field, or maintain existing knowledge. In a Hospital based setting, EMTs under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) will assist in performing patient care services and support activities of the patient care unit. Demonstrate an understanding of the Emergency Department throughout flow and anticipate workflow. Multi-skilled in order to provide expanded bedside services. Knowledge of and utilize appropriate age-related patient care protocols relating to the physical and psychological needs of all ages of patients. Interact with patients to build rapport or provide emotional support. Ability to work with growth and development needs of a diverse population. Observe, record, and report to physician the patient's vital signs, measures input and output; collects non-invasive specimens; performs simple diagnostic tests and obtains urine specimens and records all data collected in the medical record. Responsible for preparing equipment during basic examinations, diagnostic procedures, and treatments using aseptic techniques. Knowledge of medical terminology and medical equipment/supplies and helps maintain equipment, orders supplies, and cleans and restocks the treatment areas. Ability to safely assist with the transfer of patients to and from procedural areas including but not limited to Radiology and other areas. Ability to communicate directly with physicians, nursing staff, patients, and patient families and is responsible to report changes in the patient's condition. Knowledge and be able to perform high quality basic life support (BLS) and be able to apply and use a LUCAS device. Prepare and position stable patients during transport. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Position requires three months to one year of operations experience. Must have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. If working in Minnesota (MN), must hold a MN Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) license. If working in North Dakota (ND), must hold a ND EMT state license and national registry status at an EMT-Basic level. If the individual does not hold the required state license upon hire, the individual must obtain the license(s) within 30 days of hire. Must possess valid driver's license and good driving record.
