Summary:

• Certified Hemodialysis Patient tech is any person who provides direct care to patients and who is not classified as another professional, like a nurse, dietitian or social worker.Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Work under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse
  • Weighs patient and takes vital signs before, during and after treatment
  • Sets up dialysis machines in readiness for therapy and breaks machine down after therapy based on company protocol
  • Follow established safety and infection control precautions, policies and procedure
  • Perform catheter care under the direction of a registered nurse
  • Cannulate effectively as per protocol and under the supervision of a nurse
  • Collects information for the charge nurse during patient assessment and evaluation
  • Collects Pre and Post dialysis blood samples
  • Spins blood sample before temporary cold storage
  • Keeps work area clean
  • Performs monthly drain maintenance
  • Collects water samples for testing as needed
  • Trouble-shoots machine problems as needed
  • Documents vital signs and machine pressures as per protocol
  • Treat patients and families with respectMinimum Job Requirements:
    • Must complete a training program that is approved by the medical director and governing body, under the direction of a registered nurse, focused on the operation of kidney dialysis equipment and machines, providing direct patient care, and communication and interpersonal skills, including patient sensitivity training and care of difficult patients.
    • Meet training credentialing, competency, standards of practice, certification, and licensure in the state in which he or she is employed as a dialysis technician;
    • Must have a high school equivalent diploma or equivalency
    • Able to lift and move fifty (50) pounds
