JOB SUMMARY

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for utilizing the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes/planning, implementation and evaluation) to provide individualized nursing care to patients.

Collaborates with other inter-professional colleagues, including physicians, to plan, implement and evaluate care. Demonstrates competency and practices within the full scope of nursing expertise/knowledge and utilizes appropriate age and population specific standards as designated in their assigned clinical setting. Cares for patients in all phases of preventative care, health maintenance, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up as patients move along the continuum of care. Responsible for the planning and coordination of care, patient assessment, patient education, triage, and various other nursing interventions. Functions within the scope and standards of nursing practice as outlined in the Nurse Practice Act and Administrative Rules in state of practice and licensure. The Sanford Professional Nursing Practice recognizes the Scope and Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements as published by the American Nurses Association as the foundation of nursing care delivery and professional conduct.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for promoting a safe environment for patients, families, staff, residents, and visitors and working collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary health care team to provide the best outcomes for patients. Performs age related patient assessments and nursing interventions. Offers effective feedback to patient and family members regarding health. Establishes and maintains productive working relationships within and outside of own area. Effectively delegates and supervises based on ones state practice act and an understanding of the concepts of responsibility, authority, and accountability. Delivers written and oral communications that engage audience participants, respond to their questions and concerns, and produce specific outcomes and impact. Coordinates and manages care for patients, including those with complex needs. Adheres to legal regulations and organizational policies when discussing patient health information.

DEPARTMENT DETAILS

A 34 bed inpatient medical unit. The patient population includes a wide variety of diagnoses such as patients with pneumonia, COPD, respiratory distress, exacerbation of asthma, cellulitis, GI bleed, liver failure, kidney failure on dialysis, infections, diabetes, detox, suicidal ideation, various psychiatric diagnoses including dementia, delirium, and encephalopathy, and many more. Variety of nursing skills are utilized including the nursing process to assess patients with: tracheostomys, PEG tubes, NG tubes, chest tubes, on hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis, peripheral IVs and central lines, patients detoxing off of alcohol or other drugs, wound vacs, insulin drips, amiodarone drips, heparin drips, patient controlled analgesia, post-op surgical patients and many more. Care delivery model includes RNs and NA/PCT working as a team or LPNs and NA/PCT working as a team to care for assigned patients.

QUALIFICATIONS

Graduate from an accredited nursing program required, including, but not limited to, American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), and National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA). BachelorĂ¢s Degree in nursing preferred.

Currently holds an unencumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing where the practice of nursing is occurring and/or possess multistate licensure if in a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state. Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications.
