You will earn $225 per day in classroom training and $36.90 per hour in on-the-job training.POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:Carry out specific instructions detailing a train's route and specific movementsCoordinate the switching of cars, including coupling and uncoupling cars and lifting out coupling deviceObserve, interpret, and relay signals and other indications affecting movement of trainSignal crew members for movement of the engine or train using specific signals, or radio to indicate when to start, stop, back-up, set or release air brakesHave a thorough understanding of and follow General Code of Operating Rules (GCOR), General Orders and Bulletins as they pertain to the safe movement of trains, goods, and hazardous materials, ensuring the safety of CPKC employees and the general publicProvide flag protection and relay signals to trains in an emergency situation, as stipulated in the operating rulesApply corresponding Rules/Special Instructions of the other railroads, where applicableMove on and off moving or stationary equipmentRide moving car by hanging onto grab irons or ladder, sometimes for extended periods of timeFill out forms including train orders and switch lists and prepares required clear and legible reportsMust be able to handle emergency situations and operate fire extinguishers as well as be able to apply first aid techniquesMust be constantly alert to changing conditions and events and take safe and responsible action as requiredPOSITION REQUIREMENTS:High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED)Must possess a valid driver's licenseMust be at least 18 years oldValid United States passport; allowing entry/re-entry to CanadaAvailable for call 24 hours per day and respond to the designated work site within two hours of receiving the callWork schedules are irregular and are determined by the rotation of the extra board including weekends and holidaysPerform work for up to 12 hours per shift, where you may be traveling away from home and be away for 36 - 72 hours at a timeWork outdoors in all types of weather conditionsWalk long distances on railroad roadbedsAbility to lift up to 100 lbs on occasionRecognize and distinguish between the colors of signals, signs, and other visual displaysJudge the speed and/or distance of moving objects at near or far distancesPass a written examination prior to completing the trainingPossess good communication skills and work efficiently with minimum supervisionWHAT CPKC HAS TO OFFER:Flexible and competitive benefits packageEmployer Funded Retirement PlanAnnual Fitness SubsidyPart-time Studies ProgramADDITIONAL INFORMATION:Medical Requirements:CPKC is committed to the safety and health of its employees and the general public.
