This National Guard position is for a FIRE CHIEF, Position Description Number T******* and is part of the ND 119 Civil Engineering Squadron, National Guard. Learn more about this agency Responsibilities As a Fire Chief you will, serve as the Fire Chief responsible for the overall management and supervision of the fire protection/crash rescue and fire prevention program for the facility. MAJOR DUTIES (This is NOT an all-inclusive list): Plans, organizes, and oversees the activities of the Fire Protection Flight. Establishes, develops, and maintains effective working relationships with personnel, manpower, other staff officials, and municipal and other federal fire departments. Assumes incident command at crashes, fire, or emergency situations, directing activities and personnel, transmitting instructions to Assistant Chiefs on the scene or other personnel as to the procedures to be followed. Advises staff regarding policies, procedures, and directives of higher-level management or headquarters. Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Supervisory status Yes Promotion Potential 11 - #### Job family (Series) 0081 Fire Protection and Prevention- Requirements Conditions of Employment - Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation. - May be required to successfully complete a probationary period. - Participation in direct deposit is mandatory. - Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance. - Must possess a valid driver's license. - May be required to wear special protective clothing such as coats, boots, vests, gas masks, and/or helmets and may be exposed to high levels of noise such as aircraft engines. - May be required to work uncommon tours of duty on short notice. - This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 1996) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. - The incumbent of this position must be certified by the DoD Firefighter Certification system as Fire Officer IV, Fire Instructor II, Fire Inspector II, HAZMAT Incident Commander, and Airport Firefighter. Qualifications Length of time is not of itself qualifying. Candidates' experience should be evaluated on the basis of duties performed rather than strictly on the rank of the individual; however, established compatibility criteria/assignments must be followed. The applicant's record of experience and/or training must show possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to fully perform the duties of the position. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: least 1 year of experience as a GS 09 or private sector equivalent; Such duties include (1) Planning, managing, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating fire prevention programs; (2) administering a fire and emergency services budget; (3) detection, reduction, or elimination of potential fire hazards; (4) operation of fire communications equipment; (5) reviewing reports, records, codes, and procedures to make improvements to firefighting techniques and/or policies; and (6) developing, implementing, or providing training in fire protection and prevention. **You must also possess the experience, training or education to support your claim for the competency statements listed within the assessment questionnaire.
