Admission and Recovery Unit The Pediatric Admission and Recovery
Unit is located at the Sanford Medical Center and is a 12-bed unit.
This unit admits and discharges patients 0-17 years of age for
scheduled diagnostic procedures, tests and surgeries. Prior to the
scheduled intervention, all patients are screened to assure that
all needed information is present, and the patient has met all
criteria to assure a safe anesthesia, surgical or procedural
experience. Nurses work closely with anesthesia and physicians. In
addition, Child Life Specialists are a very important part of the
team. All members of the teamwork hand in hand with parents and
family members to provide family-centered care. Work with all
specialty procedures such as: Pediatric General Surgery, wound
care, orthopedics, rheumatologist, hem/oncology, nephrology, ENT,
neurosurgery, medicine & Rehab, etc. Staffing mix: RNs, Nursing
Assistants, and Child Life Specialists Nurse – Patient Ratio:
Varies dependent on whether the patient is in the pre-operative
phase or the post-anesthesia phase. Schedule: Staff do a
combination of 8s, 10s, 12s, unit hours 5:15am – 17:30/until last
patient leaves. Job Summary We’re looking for positive,

Responsibilities * Plans and coordinates patient care, assessment,
education, triage and various other nursing interventions *
Collaborates with colleagues, including physicians, to plan,
implement and evaluate care * Empathetically cares for patients
during all stages of preventive services, health maintenance,
diagnosis, treatment and follow-up along the continuum of care *
Demonstrates competency and uses comprehensive nursing expertise
Qualifications Graduate from an accredited nursing program
required, including, but not limited to, American Association of
Colleges of Nursing (AACN), Accreditation Commission for Education
in Nursing (ACEN), and National League for Nursing Commission for
Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA). Bachelor’s Degree in
nursing preferred. Currently holds an unencumbered RN license with
the State Board of Nursing where the practice of nursing is
occurring and/or possess multistate licensure if in a Nurse
Licensure Compact (NLC) state. Obtains and subsequently maintains
required department specific competencies and certifications.
